The Fine Bedding Company have launched the first duvet to be made from recycled materials.

But why should I change to an Eco Duvet?

Single-use plastic has a terrible impact on our environment.

We manufacture over 300 million tonnes of plastic a year with half of that being only used once. Plastic is very hard to biodegrade. Landfill is not the answer and there are just not enough recycling facilities to deal with the amount of plastic we are using. As a result, plastic pollution is covering our planet. Scientific research has shown that around 8 to 12 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans every year1!

This issue was brought to attention with Blue Planet II when Sir David Attenborough showed us the true devastation of plastic pollution in the ocean.

“We have to act. We have to act now to try and clear up some of the appalling damage we have made to the ocean. And that is going to require positive action”

Sir David Attenborough

Many businesses are now looking at their plastic footprint and how they can create a positive change in the battle against single-use plastics.

The Fine Bedding Company have always been environmentally conscious. In the summer of 2018, they launched the UK’s first 100% recycled duvet after years of product research and development.

The Eco Duvet is made from 100% PET plastic bottles, with approximately 120 bottles making a 10.5 tog double duvet. The 100% soft-touch microfibre cover is also made from recycled materials and encases the fibres to create a luxurious, breathable duvet.

“We were already developing this product well before Blue Planet II heightened consumer awareness. Plastic pollution has been an important catalyst for manufacturers, retailers and consumers wanting to address the issue of using sustainable products.”2 Claire Watkin Managing Director of The Fine Bedding Company.

As a result of the awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans, we are now seeing that sustainable, eco-friendly products for the home are more readily available. Therefore it is easier for you to do your bit to help reduce plastic waste and protect the environment.

By changing to a sustainable duvet you can help tackle plastic pollution from the comfort of your home.
